Bernette 46

Oh Bernette 46, what a little cutie you are! You are so darling you tempted me into buying two of you! My students are going to think you are rad (or awesome or sweet or tight, or whatever) and they are going to learn to sew because of it! You didn't have exactly what I was looking for but how could I resist: you sewed straight and zig zaged with aplomb, you don't weigh much and you look like a vintage machine. And I did my due diligence: I test drove many other versions of you to no avail. I didn't like the Janome reverse feature or the dial on the Bernina 55. The Brother, the Viking and the vintage Bernina were all great, but too spendy. So you are the one! Welcome home.

  3. I got it at Safe Stores on Foster Rd in Portland, Oregon for $215. It is a mechanical machine, so it will need a little maintenance here and there (like oil), but I think it is a good value. Where do you live? I suspect any authorized Bernina dealer could order it for you. Also - all dealers will negotiate. That is why you are not likely to find a price for this machine on the internet. Other brands, like Brother and Janome make machines for Costco and JoAnn and Target. They are computerized machines and will work fine and will cost a bit less even. Let me know what you find out and if you need more help finding and deciding on the right machine for you. This one is awful cute though!

  4. It's coming in at about $250 on ebay via the UK right now. So haggle, haggle, haggle. Can't do this at a retailer like Joann Fabrics but independent dealers are more willing to haggle over prices.
